Pardon our dust - Updates on current construction grants:
At the end of April 2020, we finished up the State of Ohio Capital Grant of $250,000 awarded in 2019 and completed the replacement of all HVAC systems, replacement, and improvement of our hot water delivery system (Roger Touvell HVAC, Ferguson Plumbing, and Hittle Electric), 90% of all windows and doors and the installation of black out blinds (Modern Glass Paint and Tile) and replaced our circa 1985 production intercom system, (Clear-Com FreeSpeak II system). Completed April 2020. And then COVID-19 hit and we had to stop most normal operations.
In March 2021 we applied for and received three grants from the following local foundations:
From The Robert E. Fellers and Leona L. Fellers Foundation Trust we were awarded $4,500 to offset operating and production expenses for our 2021 Summer Theater Day Camp for students aged 5 through 17
Completed June 2021
From The J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation we were awarded $50,000 supporting the updating and installation of code compliant electrical systems. VMP Engineering of Dublin, Ohio has completed the construction plans, Mid-East Ohio Building Department approved the plans without modification, local commercial electricians were invited to bid and have scheduled site visits by appointment (completed by July 27th), bids were due August 6, 2021. Hittle Electric, Inc. was the successful bidder for the project. Work was scheduled after CLUE ON STAGE closed on November 7 and needed to be finished by December 31, 2021. Zanesville Community Theatre, Inc. is very pleased to have developed this great new collaboration with the J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation!
Update: January 2022 - Work was completed by Hittle Electric, Inc. in December 2021. As the bid to do the long standing electrical code violation corrections and the installation of new 2021 code compliant exit and egress lighting replacing the original 1985 systems came in under budget, we sought and received permission from the Straker Charitable Foundation to use the excess towards adding insulation to the dome area between the ceiling and the attic, repairing and repainting of the ceiling seen by the audience. This work was completed January 28, 2022.
The work was done by R Monty Construction LLC and consisted of the removal of ceiling and exhaust fans, sealing and insulating the space between the ceiling and attic, installing access points on the catwalk and in the balcony, patching, repairing and painting the ceiling, as well as installing future conduit and electrical boxes for the installation of new energy efficient house lighting. We felt and the contractor agreed, access to the attic space would be difficult once the insulation was installed. Funds for this project came from the Straker Charitable Foundation ($15,000+), the Muskingum County Community Foundation ($3,750+), and several private donors.
From The Muskingum County Community Foundation we were awarded $3,750 to be used towards our on-going initiative: Setting the Stage for Growth. We will apply the grant to seal the heat and cooling losses caused by the building’s original 1910 ventilation system. See the above January 2022 Update.
