Dan Brown - In
the past, Dan has played some pretty crazy characters. From new-age
retro hippie, Charlie Blossom in “Working” to general screwball
klutz in “A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum,” Dan is no
stranger to characters that have ticks. But nothing could prepare him
from playing several crazy characters – at once.
Dan’s stage, and even local film, resume has been filling up since he started acting late 2003. After high school drama, Dan jumped headfirst into Zanesville Community Theater. “My former theater teacher told me I should audition for this part down at the local theater… so I did.” That audition earned him his first role as Bill Humphries in “84 Charing Cross Road.” After that Dan has tried to participate as much as he could at the theater. He even threw caution to the wind and signed up for the annual Angel Tree show in which Dan showed off his vocal talents. Dan comments, “Please don’t say talents.” Ironically enough, the next few shows for Dan were musicals. Dan had parts in both “Working” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum.” During the down time at the theater, Dan went back to Maysville High School, where he graduated in ’04 to aide the drama department in a few of their shows, even co-directing the student led production of “Bang Bang, You’re Dead” – in which Dan had a small cameo. “That was weird, being on the high school stage again. I don’t think everyone liked that idea.” “The
Mystery of Irma Vep” marks the beginning of his second season here at
Zanesville Community Theater. Although, when asked about it, Dan simply
replies “Huh? It’s been a year already?” With the arrival of the
new season, Dan’s participation within the theater has increased by
leaps and bounds. “The Mystery of Irma Vep” is the biggest and most
challenging project Dan has ever attempted in his semi-acting career.
Sharing a lead and playing multiple characters has taken its toll on
Dan. “The pressure is constant. I don’t think I’ve breathed since
we started rehearsals. Being out on stage for so long with so many
lines… It’s a scary thought.” But Dan has the support of his
director, fellow actor, and wonderful crew. “It’s all about trust.
We’re all like some crazy family.” Dan admits he gets on his crew
sometimes, but he assures everyone that it’s just to make them
awesome, and he really is thankful for them being there. What’s the future hold for this up and coming rookie? Only time will tell. Dan would like to continue to be on stage, but he understands how the business works. “Life is cruel sometimes, you get a dream stuck in you’re head only to realize the staggering odds against it. What do I want to do with my life? Good question. Right now, I just want to open some doors, and see where they go.” |

Todd King .-
Holding a position requiring the wearing of many hats, is nothing new to
Todd King. He is a person who enjoys multi-tasking. Wearing different
hats, knickers and dresses, however, has been a new challenge. Recently,
Todd lent his hidden pompousness to the production of "Forum"
as the Great Miles Gloriousus, his vocal chords in "Working"
as Mike Dillard and Frank, and throughout his more than
"ten-year" "tenure" with ZCT, his zest for this
organization in various other capacities. He encourages you to
participate as patrons, as volunteers, and as Participants. Be the
voyeur through this production, and hold us to a higher standard. Don't
expect good community theatre from ZCT; expect excellent theatre from a
company that happens to be right here, in your community.

Jillian B. Von Gunten
( Director ): –
Jillian has dabbled in theater her entire life. This is her first
directing experience and most likely not the last (some people would say
that she liked the power a little too much; she would deny this of
course). She is currently a poor, starving college student who’s
trying to figure out what she really wants to do when she grows up.
Jillian is simply amazed and so grateful for the immense amount of
talent contained in this cast and crew. It is because of them, all of
them, that this show has actually come to fruition. She is very proud of
this production and of those the helped create it. Director’s
Notes: Welcome to the beginning of our 43rd season here at Zanesville Community Theatre! During my time within these walls, I have worn almost every hat that one can wear whilst in a theater: audience member, actor, stage manager, crew member, assistant director, semi choreographer and follow spot operator. Never, before this, have I taken on the insane job that is directing an entire show. The Mystery of Irma Vep makes up for all the delay and I’m certain that the actors and crew will agree with me on that. There are eight characters total and no, your eyes are not playing tricks on you, there are only two actors listed. I was incredibly lucky to be blessed with two very talented leading men (who sometimes portray women) and an unbelievably fantastic crew. I am so grateful for their contributions to and support of this show. Sometimes, it really does take a village to raise a theatrical production and I have been the mayor of an unusually zany and slightly offbeat village for the past few weeks. I sincerely hope that you enjoy yourselves thoroughly while visiting us. |
