Audition FAQ

  • What to bring or prepare?
Yourself and a willingness to demonstrate to the production team you’re serious about a part or parts in the show.
  • Where and when are Auditions?
All auditions are held at Zanesville Community Theatre, 940 Findley Ave, Zanesville, Ohio 43701, unless otherwise noted. The building will be open by 6:30pm and the Lobby door will be open. This is the door near the wheelchair lift on the West side of the building. Parking is on the street and we are in a residential area so please be mindful of people’s driveways. Auditions usually begin at 7pm on the announced dates and, depending on the number of people, may run until 9:00pm or slightly later.
  • Should I come to both Auditions?
It isn’t necessary to come to both auditions to be considered for a part.
  • Should I sing a song from the show for which I’m auditioning?
No need to prepare a piece from the show auditioning – We know that sounds counter-intuitive but the Director and, if a musical, the Music Director will be using selections which ZCT will provide.
  • What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing. The stage lighting may be on and the auditions may be recorded so the production team may review auditions. Remember, you’re always “auditioning” even if you’re not reading lines!
Rehearsal Policy

Generally speaking, we schedule rehearsals around the cast and staff members schedules. That said, rehearsals are usually twice during the week (evenings) and Sundays at a time agreed upon. The last week of the rehearsal period we will have rehearsals nearly every day in the evening.

  • There will be space on the audition sheet to note any known conflicts with the rehearsal and the show schedule.
  • Also, cast members (and parents of same if the cast member is a minor) will be encouraged/required to contact the Director or Assistant Director via cell or e-mail if any last minute conflicts arise.
  • ZCT strives to structure rehearsals in such a manner that only those cast members needed are scheduled.  Again, as we near tech week (the week prior to opening), everyone will be required to attend as we will be doing whole acts or the whole show.
  • Also, if you’re only interested in working back stage or front-of-the-house, then please attend auditions and fill out an audition sheet indicating off stage parts that interest you.
