"A delightful, funny, moving glimpse of the sort of lives we are all familiar with - our own." -New York Daily News. This sentimental comedy by P.J. Barry is about American life in a bygone era and centers around eight sisters who meet on alternate Friday evenings play bridge and gossip. Spanning a ten-year period in the lives of this disparate group of siblings, from 1934 to 1944, this charming comedy contains moments of great hilarity and searching character study. The eight Donovan sisters, all born within a 17-year span, meet every two weeks to play bridge and discuss the bright and dark aspects of their family relationships. The first act happens on the third anniversary of the sisters' club, during the Depression; the second, on the club's 13th anniversary, during World War II. |
