Richard Tolliver - In 1977, Rich helped build the set and worked backstage for ARSENIC AND
OLD LACE. It started a life long love affair with the theater. sometimes it's a love/hate relationship but always passionate. His credits
include set design, acting, directing, writing and nearly any other facet of theater. Favorite sets he's built include NOISES OFF, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, NIGHT MOTHER, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, FOXFIRE and THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK. Shows he's directed that stand out for him are GRACE AND GLORIE, OUR TOWN, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE and VISITING MR. GREENE. Favorite roles he's played (to name a few) are Willy Loman (DEATH OF A SALESMAN) Big Daddy (CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF), Jasper (THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD) and Bob Ewell(TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD). Favorite things he has written are ZCT's Angel Tree Benefit Shows, especially THE COWBOY. "To see an audience get a story you've written is indescribable. The bonus with the Angel Tree Shows is that they help kids have a Christmas." His thoughts on theater? "We are just story tellers. If the audience doesn't get it then we haven't done our job." Rich has been married to his wife, Shelley, for over 9 years. "She gets me...doesn't try to make me into something I"m not. She let's me be me and her smile and laughter can get me through the tough times." To get to do an original two person show opposite of her onstage is one of life's unexpected pleasures. It's a good story. Hopefully, we'll tell it well and the audience will get it. |

Shelley Tolliver - It is an unexpected turn of events that brings me to the stage for David Schubach's Ohio debut of BACK WORDS. My norm is a behind-the-scenes girl who does things from stage manage to personal pep quad cheerleader to the actors and actresses of her husband Rich's productions. My niche is as the Assistant Director, Producer and set artist - onstage is a huge left turn for me. Favorite shows I've worked on? Zanesville Community Theatre's Annual Angel Tree Benefits are productions that have my heart. It is a wonderful thing to know that each production helps families in need. It has also become my Christmas family - members new and returning become friends and I am honored to work with every one from the young to the young at heart. I thoroughly enjoyed ZCT's summer production of ALL SHOOK UP - everyone was a HOOT!!! It's what theater is all about...new adventures and meeting new people while bringing a story to life. BACK WORDS is well written and having the opportunity to work with Rich on stage is very rare indeed. Couple that with the responsibility of this being a two performer production - to say I'm intimidated is an understatement. The challenges are many with this production - balancing work, school, memorizing lines and volunteering for two community theaters - as well as getting ready for an artshow at the ZAAP gallery (I'm sharing a show with Christy Swope through April) I've questioned my sanity more than once during March but I know -sharing the stage with my husband is a rare opportunity indeed. It's very exciting..and a lot of hard work. I'm thrilled to be here. Carpe Diem, right? It is an interesting experience to portray 2 character that are each very unlike myself in this production. I'm very lucky in the fact that David has been a hands-on director who is teaming with ideas. Stacy Clawson is a super producer who's enthusiasm is contagious. I'm very excited to be a part of this production. Working with Rich as a fellow actor - that has been a treat too. It's a different world onstage and I'm happy to enjoy the ride. Thank you for supporting the arts! |
