Production Staff

Eric Blake (Director) Eric has been involved in theatre for many years He loves being involved either on stage or working behind the scenes. It was instilled in him at an early age that it is just as important to know set construction and other technical aspects of theatre as well as developing acting skills. Eric has been involved with ZCT for several years where he is currently the President of the Board of Directors. He feels that it is so important to give back to our community, and being involved with ZCT affords him that opportunity whether by nurturing young talent and providing them a safe place to learn and have a good time or by fund raising to help provide a much needed boost to those in need.

Eric enjoys directing as well as being on stage. In addition to directing Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, he recently directed The Lion In Winter at Zanesville Community Theatre. He is also proud to say that he was part of the ensemble cast of The Laramie Project. One of his most favorite roles was Clarence the Angel in Its A Wonderful Life. Other shows Eric has been involved in recently include: Macbeth, Our Town and Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?

Director's Note:

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? I think maybe we all should be, just a little! Edward Albee’s classic drama or dark comedy, as I prefer to think of it, has been described as “scorching” and “exhilarating”. This drama is one of the most vicious portrayals of a marriage written in contemporary times but I feel that it is also a very deep and true love story. Why else would George and Martha endure such excruciating, spiteful, and hurtful fits of rage and revenge? True love can heal a world of hurts. Will this be the case for Nick and Honey? I guess you’ll have to decide that one for yourself. For Nick and Honey, this evening is like looking into a crystal ball and seeing what lies ahead.

I have been asked why on earth I wanted to direct this show and do I have anger issues or what? My response is simple. First off, no, I don’t have anger issues. This show is an actor’s bliss and as the director, I have had the privilege of helping the actors delve deep into themselves and explore their inner most emotions and facilitate the bringing of those emotions to the surface as the characters George, Martha, Nick, and Honey are developed and brought to life here on this stage.

I dedicate this show to the cast and crew of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? It has been an honor and a privilege to work with this extremely talented group of individuals. I hope that you enjoy the show as much as I have enjoyed directing it. I also want to thank you for supporting Zanesville Community Theatre as we continue “Striving for Excellence against a Backdrop of Tradition”
