Zanesville Community Theatre, Inc. (ZCT) is a wholly volunteer organization, having no paid staff positions. ZCT serves the Zanesville and Southeastern Ohio areas. ZCT is dedicated to the production of plays, musicals, and other dramatic presentations; and to the education of our members and the communities we serve in theatrical techniques and presentations. ZCT's first show was in November 1963. ZCT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, perhaps the best known work of American playwright Edward Albee, will come to life at the Zanesville Community Theatre later this month. The four person piece is a difficult one to classify. It can be taken as a drama with some very funny moments, or as a dark comedy with some moments of almost frightening intensity. The ZCT production will run Friday and Saturday, January 23 – 24 and January 30-31 at 7:00 PM with Sunday matinees on January 25 and February 1 at 2:30 PM.

The three act play offers several stories to its audiences. The first and most obvious is of George and Martha, a middle-aged college professor and his wife, who arrive home late one evening, drunk and tired from a Saturday night party. Arriving even later at the couple’s home are a younger couple, Nick and Honey. As George and Martha toy with Nick and Honey and one another it soon becomes clear that there are more stories under the surface. One is the story of Martha’s frustration with her husband’s seeming inability to become more successful in his work. One is Nick’s initially well-disguised ambition to “go places”. One is that of Honey’s fears and neuroses, which she keeps in check with impressive amounts of brandy.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a play often studied and analyzed in college theatre or literature classes, but not often performed. ZCT’s production will take advantage of a cast and technical staff with decades of experiences in hundreds of productions to bring this American classic to the stage. ZCT’s production is being directed by Eric Blake, with Bruce Revennaugh as George, Amy Underwood as Martha, Sean McClure as Nick, and Jillian B. Von Gunten as Honey.
