HONK!! So, here I am, back again. I can hear the discussion now. “She’s directing ANOTHER show?! Didn’t she just direct one in October?!” Yes, there have been times when I thought I’d lost my mind, but I’m so proud of the end result. This is a wonderful show in and of itself with marvelous characters, enchanting music, and a beautiful moral: Being different is ok; it’s great in fact. The show illustrates that each person is important and beautiful, just as they are. In addition to the wonderful show, I’ve had one of the best casts I’ve had the privilege to work with. It’s been a joy to watch them grow individually and as an ensemble and to create memorable, lasting characters. I know it’s technically a show with animals, but it really is a show about people. You all know people like these characters and the actors make all of them believable, lovable or detestable (in the case of our feline villain). Couple with the actors a talented band, and excellent minds on my tech staff, and I had a wonderful group with which to surround myself. I thank all of you and those who supported you throughout the rehearsal process. Finally, I’d like to thank Sheryl for agreeing to co-pilot this crazy trip. It never would have happened without your support and guidance.
Those of you who are regulars here at ZCT (and if you aren’t, I encourage you to become one) know that I’m a fan of the silly and slightly off beat Director’s Notes. I’d like to take a slight detour for this one. I’ve grown up here in ZCT in many ways. I’m surrounded by adopted family that I respect and love. I will graduate (finally!) from Muskingum College in May and plan to move on to the next stage of my life this fall: Law school. It’s a large step and my life will certainly change in many ways. I’ll still be around from time to time (I couldn’t leave completely!) but less frequently and so I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you. I’d like to thank my adoptive family for supporting me and teaching me a craft that I’ve grown to love so very much. I love you all. I’d like to thank the audiences for continuing to come and allowing us to perform and grow. Finally, I’d like to thank my parents for believing in and supporting me, helping to instill wonder and courage in me, and for creating the strong woman that I am. My efforts in
“HONK!” are dedicated to them.
Finally I’d like to thank all of you who’ve taken a chance on the arts in Southeastern Ohio and come to see
“HONK!” Listen to the words, watch the characters, laugh, enjoy the story and hear the message. We’re all different and that’s ok because, “someone’s gonna love you…warts and all!”

Sheryl Wise (Music Director)
When planning for this season we were looking for a show that would involve a wide range of ages and also appeal to a wide audience. This
show fits the “bill”. If you are not familiar with the show, it is the
musical version of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Ugly Duckling”. I was
the musical director for this show several years ago when it was produced
at Philo High School and we had a marvelous time. The music is so fun and
the story delightful. This cast brings together many new faces as well as
ZCT veterans. I am especially looking forward to collaborating with Jillian as she tackles another item on her bucket list---directing a big
musical.
This is the 29th season that I have been involved in some capacity at Zanesville Community Theater. Each season brings with it another series
of memories for my scrapbook and I hope many smiles to our patrons. |
