Cast & Crew Bios - The Complete Works of Wm. Shakespeare (abridged)

Show Pictures  Director's Notes

Cast ( in alphabetical order )
Julia Free - In most average Shakespearian productions, you don’t expect to see an actor under the age of eighteen. But then again, you’re going to see a lot of things you wouldn't expect in this show.

Julia Free is a home schooled, book loving, fiction writing minor, who also happens to have some fond feelings for theatre and The Bard. Here at ZCT, she has appeared in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Our Town, and Something’s Afoot. Studying dear Will is a bit of a hobby for her, and somewhere along the way her Shakespeare books became the bane of her bedtime. She hopes that you will be shocked and awed by this show, and that on your way out, your heads will be filled with thoughts of, “Why couldn’t we do Shakespeare like that in high school?”

Kevin Lucas - This is my third show here at ZCT, and I must say every show I do I become more and more amazed at the talent that is here is Zanesville. The last show I did, The Lion in Winter, I sat in awe watching everyone evolve in that play into these huge dramatic roles. This show which we have come to call TCWOWSA I've seen a completely different side, a fun childish side has come out, and the comic genius of these people is shining. Its a daunting feeling, and puts a lot of pressure on me being on stage with such talented people. I feel extremely privileged to be on stage with this cast and I know you are all in for a treat, some of you more than others.
Sean McClure - What an amazing experience this has been. It is very rare to find a show that encompasses the old with the new, and I am grateful that I am a part of it. I have had a wonderful time rehearsing and I am so excited to finally present it. I am sure that you will have a wonderful time. If you don't we do not offer refunds!! So I want everyone member of the audience to sit back and relax and watch us do all the work!

Steve Stewart is the old man of the group and you can tell that because he can hardly remember which shows he had done. So instead of listing a bunch of shows from 1955 until now, lets just say that he played with Shakespeare’s kids.

Steve is an Ohio University graduate from the college of Theatre and appeared in university productions of Peter Pan, The Birthday Party and The Front Page, along with numerous graduate student productions. He was also fortunate to appear in the Ohio State University production of  The Importance Of Being Earnest and Hello Dolly with the Players Club of Columbus. He appeared in a Columbus community theatre production of Butterflies Are Free. In Zanesville he was seen in Love Rides the Rails and was cast in the Zanesville Community Theatre productions: Of Mice and Men and several years ago in the musical play Working. The Haunting of  Hill House allowed Steve to dust off his acting skills as Dr. Montague. In ZCT’s production of The Ladies of the Sacred South he performed the role of Buck and played several characters in A Thurber Carnival.

“I like doing Willies plays because they always make me think. You know, stuff like , did people back then get a headache just listening to each other talk?”

Amy Underwood - OK, I’ll admit that I’m a Shakespeare "geek". I’ve either appeared in , or directed, approximately a dozen productions of Shakespeare’s works, and I loved every one of them. This particular script appeals to me (and I hope to the audience) on many levels. Indeed, all of the plays are performed in part or at least mentioned. The action is lightening quick and the humor is often bawdy and sprinkled with references to current day happenings. If the plays are read in the context of their time, it becomes quickly apparent that the playwright was writing to appeal to the broad spectrum of late 15th and early 16th century society. The stories and characters have a certain timeless appeal, but many of the jokes are political, silly or risqué in turns. I hope that all of you will enjoy our performance as much as we have enjoyed preparing it for you.

Sheryl Wise - Sheryl is a long time ZCT veteran who has been involved in all aspects of community theater from directing, acting, serving on the theater board, to taking out the trash. She says that community theater is an opportunity to be creative, as well as use her educational background to further the arts in our area. Sheryl is the technology coordinator for Franklin Local Schools and the Philo High School drama director.  She is the organist at Market Street Baptist Church where she is active in women’s missionary work and Sunday school. She currently serves on the state board for American Baptist Women and locally the Muskingum Memorial Concert Band and Zanesville Concert Association boards. Some of her favorite pastimes are spending time with family, friends, and her cats, reading, and walking.

Production Staff

Jillian B. Von Gunten (Director) Jillian is currently a senior at Muskingum College specializing in the areas of Theater, Political Science, History, and English with majors and minors that change on a regular basis. Jillian has been involved in theatre for nearly all of her life and considers ZCT her second home. In addition to numerous onstage and backstage roles, Jillian is currently rounding out her third year as ZCT’s President of the Board of Directors. Her favorite theatrical projects include, portraying Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Margot Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank and Alais Capet in The Lion in Winter, as well as directing both The Mystery of Irma Vep and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Director’s Notes: I don’t know that “director” is the right title for my job description during this show. Perhaps “Befuddled Traffic Cop” or “Orchestrator of Organized Chaos,” is more accurate. At rehearsal the other night I called myself the “only chex in a sea of fruit loops.” I’m not totally certain, but I do know that “director” is far too benign and not nearly funny enough. I’ll have to have my cast work on that…But I’m straying from the topic at hand…Welcome to the show! If you’ve come to the theatre expecting to see actual, real, honest-to-goodness Shakespeare done properly with the correct subtext and seriousness, I’m afraid you are in the wrong place. What you will witness in this theatre is the carefully crafted “smushing” of the Bard’s work into a madcap morsel of mirth.

There are a couple things that I as the “director” or whatever I actually happen to be should make you, our fantastic audience members, aware of. This next bit may strike fear into some of your hearts but, this is an audience participation show. The cast will be attempting to interact with you at various points in the show and it is unbelievably helpful if you, our unparalleled audience members, interact back with them! Go with the flow and know that we’ll return you as we found you when we’re finished. Promise. There may even be a prize for cooperative participants. Isn’t that exciting?! I thought so.

Alright, I can see people's eyes glazing over so I’ll wrap it up here. It has been an extreme pleasure to work with these six zany actors as well as the production staff. No, this isn’t the obligatory “they were great, really,” this is totally genuine. Several of the cast I’ve known for years and I’ve come to admire their talent and respect them as people. Others are fairly new but they’ve impressed me with their dedication and energy, as well as their talent. Their work on this show has been tremendous. This is a show I am very proud to have been a part of and I hope very much that you enjoy your time here. If you don’t, I am very sorry…I won’t be available for complaints…or refunds, so ENJOY THE SHOW!
