The Mississippi Delta is laden with
hard truths. In one such plantation mansion, the entire household must come
face to face with their own realizations. Big Daddy, the head of the family and
owner of the plantation, is dying. One
of his two sons will inherit everything. One of his sons is too involved with
his own deep personal conflicts to even care. The other is too caught up in his
greed to care about anything else. Even the wives are being fueled by their own
agendas: competing to put the virtues of their spouses in the limelight of the
dying father.
This Tennessee Williams controversial classic from 1955 manages to capture modern family dramas. From the never-ending loyalty and self-preservation of mothers and wives, to father and son confrontations and resolutions which threaten the very foundations of the word family.
