Cast Bios - Gershwin by George! The 1936 Radio Show  Show Pictures

Steve Spires (George Gershwin ) This is the first production that Steve has been involved in. Currently, Steve is a music instructor in the Zanesville area at Spires Music Studio. He is a recent graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. However, music remains his true passion

Nancy Cain Hynds (Ethel Merman ) Nancy returns to the stage after an eight year hiatus. She is married to Todd, a cabinet and furniture maker, and they have one cat, Buddy. She thoroughly enjoys Gershwin music and hopes you enjoy the show.

Roger Touvell (Al Jolson ) Roger has enjoyed doing theatre for many years. This has been a very challenging role for him. Hope you enjoy the show.

Rich Tolliver (Paul “Pops” Whitman ) has been around theatre for over 25 years directing, acting, writing, designing sets, etc. A show like Gershwin is actors’ candy and even if he shouldn’t, he can’t resist. He wishes you all the best!

Stefani Weaver  (Adele Astaire ) I’ve lived in the Zanesville area my whole life. Theatre first interested me when I was five and since then, I can’t get enough of it. I attended the Ohio University in Athens and received a degree in theatre. I hope to continue to perform in the theatre and make it my career. Doing this show has been wonderful for me because I have always loved Gershwin’s music.

Zack Shelton (Fred Astaire ) is making his ZCT debut. Just 15 years young, you may remember him singing “Elvis” music in Zanesville’s Y-City Star in the Summer of 2005. He has performed in many other productions at Secrest Auditorium as well as other venues around Zanesville. Zach would like to thank his parents for their encouragement and support and we thank them too! Enjoy the show.

Robert Leland Taylor (Jimmy Durante ) Robert is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and has appeared in a number of plays here at ZCT since moving to Zanesville in ’99. He is also a playwright, having won the Southern Playwright’s Competition (KENTUCKY WINGS), the Los Angeles Bashore Award (AND HERE LIE THE BOOMER’S), finalist in the McLaren National Comedy Competition (SEX WITHOUT PLIERS), finalist at the Actors Theatre of Louisville’s National Ten-Minute Play Contest (DON’T CRY FOR ME, IKE AND TINA) and was semi-finalist in other national competitions. Several of his plays were produced here at ZCT. Robert loves writing and acting equally, finding it impossible to choose between the two. As a child he thoroughly enjoyed Durante’s weekly TV shows, and is proud and honored to offer his interpretation of the “Schnozzola”, one of America’s greatest entertainers

Dorlesia Jordan  (Anne Wiggins Brown ) I have been doing shows at ZCT for 10 years and I enjoy every show more than the one before. I am pleased to be a part of the George Gershwin cast, so sit back and enjoy the show!

Jon Geyer ( Don Wilson ) Jon has done many shows here at ZCT, but this may be his last; he is moving shortly after the run of the show. He looks forward to the opportunity to work with such a talented group of people and bring the music of such a talented musician to stage.
Terri Kenney (Charlie) – I’ve been involved at ZCT for five years now and each time is better than the last. I’m a grandma of three, mom to five plus all their significant others. I love to sing, play guitar, paint, write, and act. Thanks for coming and enjoy the show.
Max Winland  ( Arnold ) The Haunting of Hill House was Max’s first foray into Zanesville Community Theatre. Gershwin by George is his second. Max gets his thespian roots from his daughter Liza who has participated in several ZCT productions. Max is a graduate of Zanesville High School and a member of the 1979 COL championship football team. Max graduated from Muskingum College, way back in 1983. After several years in the insurance industry in Dallas, Texas and central Ohio, Max formed his own company, HandyMaxx. Handy Maxx specializes in small contracting projects and comprehensive property maintenance and welcomes new clients. Max has been married for twenty-two years and has two amazing daughters, Liza and Casie. Liza is a freshman at Baldwin-Wallace College and Casie is a freshman at ZHS. Max would like to thank all his fellow actors for their patience and support.
Olivia Earich ( Applause Walker ) I'm 13 years old and I've been in many shows. Some of them were Angel Tree, Charlotte's Web, and most recently Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. All of them were really fun! I personally know one of the directors ( Mollie Earich) because she's my mommy! I've had alot of fun working with these people because they have so much energy. Well that's all that's interesting about me... see you after the show!

Director’s Notes:

I wanted to direct this show because music by Gershwin manages to encompass all areas and stages of life. He does this through 3 huge musical types: Symphonic, Jazz, and American Folk. Most of us know or can remember something from his body of work; Summertime has been on American Idol. Someone to Watch Over Me in Mr. Holland’s Opus. Our Love Is Here To Stay and Embraceable You made their appearance at my wedding and I am certain at others. The strains of Gershwin have influenced so many of us. So please sit back and join us as we wander down memory lane. Enjoy the show.
