History - Funds Raised to date - This Year's Show

Zanesville Community Theatre's dedication to serving the community continues. Written every year by Richard Tolliver, the ZCT Annual Angel Tree Benefit strives to create a show that embraces the sincerest meaning of the holiday while serving the needs of community members who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances.

Centered around the holiday theme, Rich Tolliver and company creates a festive show that celebrates the season including winter wonders, traditional holiday music and music that may be in future holiday traditions, tugs at heartstrings and humor. Every year ZCT's little theater also gets a visit from that 'Gentleman of the North' who brings gifts for all the boys and girls after the show. It's a Zanesville Tradition that leaves folks with a warm holiday feeling.

Here's why ZCT's Angel Tree Benefit Show is a successful community tradition:
Everyone who wants to participate can -
on stage, behind the scenes, raffle prize contributors -
everyone is welcome and no one is turned away.

The entire show is made up of volunteers who join in the mission of helping families in need. No member of this production or any ZCT production gets paid.

ZCT opens the show for a donation instead of their set ticket price.

ZCT's goal is for families to come and enjoy a holiday show together while knowing their donation is helping families who are in need.

All monies collected by way of donations or raffle go directly to support the Salvation Army's cause to help needy families of our area and surrounding communities. All production costs are paid by Zanesville Community Theatre.

The entire Angel Tree Production is successful because members truly believe in what Rich Tolliver and ZCT's Angel Tree Benefit does for the community.

It's people helping people.

Angel Tree 2005
Director's Note:

People coming together to help others. It's ingrained in our culture. When questioned about working at a church supper fund raiser, my grandfather's response was simply put "It's what we do."

When putting on these Angel Tree productions, we take all comers - every one who auditions - it sounds a little crazy, I guess. In fact, I've been told that it is many times. This year, is our largest group ever. A cast varied in personalities and skill levels and about 70 odd years age difference from the oldest to the youngest. Somebody asked me once "why don't you take up a collection, take all the money you spend in gas, costumes, paper, ink, music, props, electricity, sets, etc. and just donate that to the children and save all the time and hassles that come with putting on a show?" I suppose we could do that, but then we'd miss the laughter, tears, joys, pains, human drama, backstage romances, the squabbles, and the growth. We'd miss the audience getting pulled into our story, a story wrapped around a greater story, a story that ultimately ends with smiles on children's faces come Christmas morning.

I guess we could take up a collection and give the money to the cause, but here at Zanesville Community Theatre - the journey is as important as the destination...It's all a part of what we do.

Merry Christmas
and may God bless you and yours,

Rich Tolliver
