A Baker's Dozen

When I was  kid, I went into a bakery with my grandfather.  He ordered doughnuts, he smiled and said "Give me  a baker's dozen." I asked what he meant, he said they pick out a variety and throw in one extra so you get 13, a bonus for buying a dozen.  It's always intrigued me, a little bit of everything and little bit more.  That's what we want this show to be, a show about theatre, a show about life.  We draw on what I think is an interesting parallel.  I believe the "magic of theatre" is hard work and dedication and so is the secret to life and happiness. Being happy doesn't mean life doesn't have its ups and downs and anyone who's involved in theatre knows it has pitfalls.

This show will be all original material and everyone involved will be bringing original characters to life.  They'll have a stake in their development and outcome.  The cast will include at least 13 people, male and female with two teenagers - a boy and a girl. (hey, I said it was about life)

Come out and give us a try.  Its theatre from auditions to applause. (I hope)!

Audition Update:

Due to the weather Zanesville Community Theatre has postponed auditions for the workshop "BAKER'S DOZEN" to Sunday, February 1st and Monday, February 2nd at ZCT at 7:00.

This show is a workshop which means that participants will be involved in the creation of the show, its characters and its storyline.  The underlying premise is " a slice of life" - each of the three one-acts will look into the human element. One has a foundation in writing -  it looks at a married couple looking over their 25 years of marriage. The second follows a head-waiter in training as he learns of the lives of the customers who frequent the restaurant.  The third takes a walk down memory lane from a couple's very first dance in charm school, to their wedding dance and ultimately to their last waltz together.  Each are thoughtfully constructed and the potential for a wonderful experience is abundant.

We are welcoming auditioners from teens up - no experience is necessary. We encourage people who are interested in script writing and story telling to come out.  This workshop will focus on character development, plot construction and show creation.
