Welcome
to Klickitat Street! During the
past few months, I told friends and family that I was directing a kid’s show,
and I saw a lot of grimaces. In
fact, before I met the cast during auditions I grimaced a few times myself.
Well, night one of auditions changed my grimace to amusement, and by the
first rehearsal, I was having fun. Someone
once said, to steer away from directing animals and children, but I can’t
imagine why. Kids today are busy!
But the kids in this cast gave me a true commitment.
They wanted to be at rehearsal, they wanted to play the part they were
chosen for, and they made it happen for us.
Each and every child on this stage has done an amazing transformation
since auditions. I enjoy their
childlike humor every rehearsal. And
the adults in the play….well, let’s just say they’re not too shabby
either.
I have never wanted to be a director. I always knew it was too much work. When asked to ‘help out’ with Ramona Quimby, I had no idea I would be thrust into the world of directing. I could not have pulled this show together without the help of true friends. Special thanks to the Tollivers and the Dondlinger’s. Thank you Jan and Carl for doing the duties you do every single show here at ZCT. To the parents of the children, you have been more than wonderful. I can’t thank you enough. And for my co-director, my warmest thanks, Todd. I couldn’t have done this without you.
