Written doubtless to celebrate a wedding, strange mixups occur in a forest near Athens during a midsummer’s night. Puck, the spritely servant of the fairy king, Oberon, secures a love juice which shifts the loves of two pairs of Athenians and causes Titania, the fairy queen, to fall in love with Bottom the weaver while he wears an ass’ head. Later at the Duke’s wedding feast, three weddings are celebrated, during which the tradesmen present as an interlude a burlesque version of the play Pyramus and Thisbe.
